Another Successful Baby Season—All Thanks To You!

With the arrival of September, we are all breathing a collective sigh of relief as we close the books on another successful Baby Bird Season! Whether you volunteered, provided eggs or supplies, rescued a bird in need, or made a gift in support of our work, please know it's because of caring people like you that this work happens!

Read on for some fun facts and stats from this season. Also in this update: an invitation to a fun MusEcology concert in support of BRC and The Laguna Foundation.

Fun Facts & Stats From 2025 Baby Bird Season

One look and our hearts melted when this adorable baby Kestrel came to BRC. But he was just one of many we were able to help. This season saw:

• Almost 2,000 birds

• Approximately 120 different species

• Overall survival rate of 84%

20 Outreach events

38 Ambassador presentations

New partnerships with the Sonoma Botanical Gardens, Museum of Sonoma County, and Sonoma County Humane Society

This year's overall top species included: House Finches, California Towhees, American Crows, Anna's Hummingbirds and Black-crowned Night Herons.

In the raptor world, Great Horned Owls, Western Screech Owls and American Barn Owls topped the list, although we admitted 13 different raptor species in all.

From the tiniest of hatchlings to full adults, we had a wide variety of patients—including one very cute Virginia Opossum whose stay was brief before transferring to our friends at Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue for care!

Here are some more fun facts!

• Most intakes in a single day: June 29th with 29 birds admitted

• Most releases in a single day: August 4th with 25 birds returned to the wild

Busiest month overall: As expected, June took the lead with 532 intakes, 188 releases, and a peak number of total patients in care of 212!

All in all, it was another hugely successful year—and we couldn't have done it without the support of our volunteers, generous donors, and you, our caring community. From the bottom of our hearts, Thank You!

Raising The Roof In Our Ambassador Compound

ree

Roof repairs are desperately needed - and you can help!

Vulture Villa, home to Ambassadors Barfolomew and Prin, is in dire need of roof repairs before the rains set in. These repairs will require 22 new roof panels and are estimated to cost approximately $1,000 for both materials and labor.

If you are able to help with this project, your gifts will ensure our favorite Turkey Vultures stay warm and dry this winter!

As our summer babies grow and venture out into the world, they can get into some serious trouble until they gain more experience. That's why fall and winter tend to bring more medically intense cases.

Your support is vital to giving them their second chance.

Together, we will continue to save lives.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
