Zach Dautrich, Beloved Raptor Handler & Friend of BRC

“…his passion was clear to all who knew him: stewardship of the earth by helping people appreciate and live in greater harmony with the natural world. His gentle nature, sense of humor, deep connection to people and his love for animals will be missed by all who knew him.”

The world at large, and all its creatures lost a very special human being in early March 2017, in the person of Zach Dautrich. He was a dedicated volunteer raptor handler for a number of years and a very special friend and supporter of the Bird Rescue Center. To quote the lovely obituary in the Healdsburg Tribune, “Hiking, camping, biking, yoga, meditation, music, and Penn State sports were his hobbies, but his passion was clear to all who knew him: stewardship of the earth by helping people appreciate and live in greater harmony with the natural world. His gentle nature, sense of humor, deep connection to people and his love for animals will be missed by all who knew him”. Zach was also a talented photographer, and his photography and naturalist work lives on through his blog feralzach.com.

In his last days, Zach thought of BRC, and asked his family to let people know that he wished to be remembered via two organizations that he supported — and gratefully BRC is one of these organizations. If you were fortunate enough to know Zach, or you feel inspired by his life, please consider making a donation in his memory. You can do that at justgive.org’s Zachary Elias Dautrich Memorial Fundraiser page.
