Our long history of success rests on a foundation of concern and generosity from many people throughout the community. You can help ensure the future of The Bird Rescue Center’s rehabilitation and educational programs. There are many direct and indirect ways you can participate—becoming a member, volunteering, making a donation or a bequest—and we welcome your support in whatever form it takes!

1. An average of $120 is needed for every bird admitted to our Rehab Hospital during the year.

2. 100% of our operating budget comes from members, grants and donations from local businesses and individuals. BRC receives no state or federal funding.

3. Over 120 volunteers spent more than 20,000 hours rescuing and taking care of birds. Our incredibly dedicated volunteers routinely give their time and cover their own gas and travel expenses to go businesses and homes to assist in rescuing birds when help is needed.

4. In any given year, we care for over 3,000 birds, representing over 130 different species. Of these, approximately 10% are raptors.

Wowl, the Great-Horned Owl, resident raptor5. We currently have 18 resident birds of prey (raptors) in our permanent care. These non-releasable birds that we call our Ambassadors would otherwise be euthanized. These birds are kept by BRC under permits from federal and state wildlife agencies and are used in our public environmental education programs. Their care is provided by volunteers who spend an average of 60 hours per month per bird. These volunteers prepare food, feed birds, perform health checks, clean aviaries, keep detailed records and present our birds in education programs.
